From the StarTribune: An aborted attempt to impose penalties on a northeast Minneapolis bar for the behavior of its patrons has cost the city $201,000. The settlement approved recently involves the city's 2008 attempt to impose restrictions on Gabby's Saloon and Eatery at 1900 NE Marshall St. That was overturned earlier this year by the Minnesota Court of Appeals after the bar appealed the City Council action. The bar also filed a federal civil rights lawsuit last year that alleged that the city's enforcement efforts were aimed at driving away black patrons on popular hip-hop nights. To settle that suit, the city agreed to pay $175,000 in legal costs, return a $25,000 penalty it levied on Gabby's and pay $1,000 interest on that. |
